We truly appreciate all the support and love that we get from everyone.
Coolinaz- I went through the same longing for the beach when I was at school in Mt. Pleasant, Mi. I wish I had the webcam to look at while I was there, at least you can still check in whenever you want to. Like George said, "it almost takes your breath away."

September 18, 2008, 11:44 am - coolinaz

I grew up in Muskegon and moved to AZ. I wanted to get away from the snow. Now all I can think of is how great the beach is. I come every summer to visit. I love this webcam. It is the next best thing to being there! I love Pere Marquette Park.

September 13, 2008, 10:32 am - Old Muskegon

Thank You for the Web Cam & web site. Very well done. looking foreward to sitting with a cup of coffee in the morning watching the web cam, and deciding if I should fish today or go SURFING. Norm,Looks like the fish are bitting!

August 10, 2008, 12:01 pm - george

This truly is maybe the greatest web cam in the entire world not just for the sunsets, but for the spectacular Michigan sand.

It almost takes your breath away.

August 10, 2008, 11:57 am - george

You should be able to go to Earthcam.com and click on the Muskegon cam and then click on the post image button on the bottom and make sure your pop up blocker doesn't stop it.

That should save the image and you can play with it to your hearts content.

Make it your desktop background if you want. That would be full screen.

August 2, 2008, 11:20 am - ValkyrieSailor

WE love your webcam and would like to use for a screensaver. How can I make it fullpage without any borders ?
Can you please make it stay on the sunset longer, less time on other views.
GREAT CAM the BEST that I've seen yet !
Thanks again ValkyrieSailor

Seul Choix is a prime spot. Ryan Gerrard told me all about that place while I was going to school up at Northern. Unfortunately I've never surfed it, but every photo I've seen from that area looks unreal! Now we just need to get some swell down this way. This summer has been too flat.

July 21, 2008, 8:57 am - Will

We went up to the U.P. on Friday July 11 near Manistique. We surfed in Manistique on Saturday morning, and surfed Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning east of Manistique at Sieu Choix point just east of Manistique.

July 21, 2008, 8:35 am - p.bourdon

Will-

Nice shots from the U.P. I guess the story of the summer has been, if you want waves you've gotta drive (a long way) for them. What spots did you guys surf? When was the trip? Needless to say I'm a little jealous.

July 15, 2008, 10:12 pm - p.bourdon

Yeah, this summer has been pretty sick as far as sunsets go. I was away for a few years, but its great to be back around this part of the world in the summer. I think part of the reason we've had such good sunsets this year is because of all the weather systems we've had blow through thus far. The storms and the subsequent "clean up" skies afterward have made for many an amazing night around here. Enjoy the view.

July 15, 2008, 5:38 pm - loonhaunt

I'm glad to know Muskegon has some of the best sunsets in your experience.

I know it isn't the same as being there, but the other night when there were clouds and the sky was pink, my mouth was hanging open.

It isn't just the sky. The sand is bright and colorful.

It's just truly one of the great webcams in the entire world and I've been looking at webcams for 10 years.

I don't really count the ones that don't stream.
I don't just want to see a picture, I want movement.

July 15, 2008, 4:24 pm - p.bourdon

To loonhaunt:

I've been all over the country and have lived in Washington state and Lake Tahoe California for some time respectively, and the only place I can think of with consistently better sunsets than western lower Michigan is the Keweenaw region of the upper peninsula. As far as I know there are no real "sunset" cams up there. Besides, watching an upper Michigan sunset on a camera just isn't the same. You've gotta be there especially around the solstice, the sun doesn't set up there until nearly 11pm!! Its unreal....

July 14, 2008, 2:51 pm - loonhaunt

TYVM

for the ferry schedule.

I just caught it and the camera moved perfectly for a nice closeup.

July 14, 2008, 1:59 pm - loonhaunt

OK
At least I can watch for the ferry. We rode on the Clipper when I was young.

There is a schedule for the Duluth big ships here, and sometimes they say they are going to Muskegon. But they don't list an arrival time.

I guess Muskegon would have to get her own Ken Newhams.

Here is the link for that.

http://64.224.59.239/schedule.html

Someone still has to tell me if there is a better sunset webcam in the entire world. Anything that snaps a shot only every few minutes doesn't count. It has to stream.

July 14, 2008, 9:58 am - surfmuskegon- Jeraca

The sunsets are awesome along the lakeshore, I don't think anyone could argue with that.
I know you can check out the Lake Express schedule at www.lake-express.com
I am not sure about any other ship schedule. It's pretty cool to watch, especially when you can see them in the close up shot on the camera.

July 13, 2008, 8:10 pm - loonhaunt

I think that you could put on your website, "The most beautiful sunset web cam in the world.

And whoever would argue with that would have to prove there's something better.

July 13, 2008, 7:58 pm - loonhaunt

Caught one of the big ships going out. Is there a schedule posted anywhere?
That is one stunning sunset tonight.

This has got to be one of the better sky or sunset cameras around.

July 13, 2008, 3:29 pm - loonhaunt

Born there. Done that. Oh to be young again so we could visit Aunt Kay and Aunt Ruth and Uncle Victor in Muskegon again. Many happy memories.

Could watch the ships come in also if we had a schedule.

July 8, 2008, 8:02 am - surfmuskegon- Jeraca Benson- reply to p.bourdon

I'm glad you like that last forecast, it was fun to do it there. We actually did end up eating afterward and the food was delicious! Although I didn't try the Jam Bong Soup, I'll have to do that next time. Will is the expert on the wave scene, but my guess is that it's because the lake water temperature hasn't warmed up all that much yet. Keep watching the webcam, that's what it's for!

July 8, 2008, 7:45 am - p.bourdon

I had to laugh a little bit about the forecast from the Egg Roll House, but that place is killer!! I've been going there since they were in the old Muskegon mall. The Korean food is incredible especially the Jam Bong soup. What's up with the lack of waves this summer with all the storm activity? Thanks again for the cam, it has saved me a lot of gas this summer.

June 29, 2008, 10:11 am - Will Beaton

Hey Josh, great pictures of North Muskegon from last summer. There are a lot of good waves there when the wind blows from the south.

June 20, 2008, 11:03 pm - Josh

Hey, wow great site. My brother and his friend do alot of surfing in Lake Michigan(you can basicly say I am there photographer, I take alot of surfing pictures of them). Well anyways I will definitely be checking back more often. Also I will try and put a few into the user submitted photo section on the site.

June 20, 2008, 10:44 pm - SurfMuskegon

Oops. Will actually got that one right. It was the camera man who insisted that the Silversides was a WWI submarine.

Thanks for the correction!

The USS Silversides was a World War II submarine. Everyone, please be sure to visit the museum. You can find more information about the USS Silversides SS-236 and the USCGC McLane W-146 at www.glnmm.org.

June 20, 2008, 8:47 am - Will

Thank you Tracy, give me a call, next to surfing, lunch is a pretty good thing.

June 20, 2008, 8:45 am - Will Beaton-Marine Forecaster and Surfer

We plan to provide the web cam images throughout the year and 24/7. Also, I will be doing a marine forecast every day that will include wind speed and direction, wave height and water temperature. I will also try to predict the best locations for surfing and keep surfers informed about upcoming surf. Also, please leave comments for any other data or information you need about the weather and the marine conditions.

June 20, 2008, 7:25 am - p.bourdon

Hey, thanks for setting up a reliable web cam at Pere Marquette. Its about time the Muskegon surf community had a cam of their own that isn't inside the pier arms. Keep the forecasts coming. From the sounds of it you will be including wind speed, wave height and water temps which is also great. One note however on the most recent forecast, the Silversides is a WWII submarine not WWI. Any way looking forward to a hopefully windy and wavy July. Bring on the Surf!!!

June 17, 2008, 4:01 pm - Tracy Adams

Hey will, since you're in charge of the weather, could you order up some chest high southies so I can try out my new retro fish? Great site, keep up the great work. Let's do lunch again soon, my treat.

June 12, 2008, 11:12 pm - montague

So glad you have a SurfMuskegon site now...the GH surf reports were great but not totally helpful to me, since I usually avoid surfing there because of the heavier crowds on the beach. But if the waves are up, well then tripping over tourists is worth it! I don't even really watch the news to get the forecast anymore, I just check your sites =D

May 24, 2008, 8:06 am - blances

We ride our bikes towards the pier quite a bit So, this is very nice. keep up the good work on this site and g.h. C-Ya~~laters

Another spectacular sunset(5/21/08).

Big volleyball tournament set for saturday, hope
the wind stays down.

May 11, 2008, 8:03 pm - Brigitte P. Smith

I'm trying to find out what is going on the week-end of the 23rd. And very unhappy that there was no infor.

May 5, 2008, 3:24 pm - Will

Hi Elizabeth..yes I am providing weather as chief meteorologist of SurfMuskegon, SurfGrandHaven, and other lakeshore cities that we plan to expand into. Thank you for the kind words, and we are pleased that you find our surf sites helpful. Also, we look forward to your visit across the "pond".

May 5, 2008, 8:48 am - SurfMuskegon

Thank you.

You will soon have the ability to sort the comments either way.

And, yes, Will is in charge of the weather.

May 4, 2008, 5:04 pm - Elizabeth

I have seen enjoying the GH site for sometime also and it is very nice to have another one to look at at the same time. Congratulations it is great and I am so pleased the comments are listed the other way round, much easier! The sites give me new incentive to start planning a trip across the pond to see you all. Is Will in charge of this site too?

April 20, 2008, 5:12 pm - Mary

You just made my day! I've been a fan of Surf GH for months now and am delighted to see my lake from my town. Thank you!
